The Port of Rotterdam Authority (PoR) has embarked on its first ever project aimed at the realization of office space: ?Port City?. The project entails land reclamation activities in the Waalhaven, an underground parking garage with 800 parking spaces and four office buildings covering a total surface area of 32,000 m2 (*). The top of the parking garage will have a public character and will cover approximately 13,000 m2. The offices are destined for maritime and industrial companies.
The first building in Port City covers 9000 m2 (*) and will entirely be taken up by logistics service provider Broekman Groep (handling, treatment and distribution of cars, shipping agency and logistics) from Rotterdam. The second building covers 8500 m2 (*), 50% of which will be occupied by the Benelux branch of Evergreen Marine from Taiwan.
Waalhaven area
In coming years, the Waalhaven area will be (re)developed. In addition to the handling activities to and from sea-going vessels which are currently taking place there and which will be retained, port-related distribution activities and office locations will be realized in the area. An example of the latter is ?Dockworks? on the eastern side of the Waalhaven. The area is ideally suited for port-related companies: it is close to the city centre and the A15 motorway, but also to the port.
Architectural firm Ector Hoogstad Architecten is responsible for the concept design of Port City. Jones Lang Lasalle advises the PoR as regards the renting out of the project.
Real estate activities PoR
Since early 2006, the PoR has been offering (potential) port customers a comprehensive range of services for both the development of new real estate and the redevelopment of existing objects. The core tasks of the Port of Rotterdam Authority are the leasing out of sites and the realization of infrastructure. The (re)development of real estate adds an extra dimension to this. The PoR places an emphasis on quality and long-term surety and offers a solid real estate position as well as vast amounts of knowledge in the fields of logistics and the industrial sector.
